The DERKOM+KLEIN Company
In December 1912 Hermann Derkom founded "Remscheider Schleif- und Polierindustrie Derkom & Co." in Remscheid near Solingen, Germany. A few years later, in 1917, he took over the "Westdeutsche Schmirgel- und Schleifmittelfabrik GmbH" in Solingen-Wald.
In the year that followed Derkom began to use magnesite for manufacturing large grinding wheels, a material not previously well known. His goal was to replace the hazardous sandstone types, which had been the cause of so-called grinder's lung.
Following WWII and the economic recovery, modernization of the company and the fusion with the Solingen company Paul Klein & Co., DERKOM+KLEIN became a specialist in the field of magnesite and artificial resin-bound grinding wheels.
Grinding wheels under the name Rapidor are sold today not only in Solingen but to leading companies in the metalworking industry around the world. Today knives, scissors, machine cutters, tools, flat coils and similar workpieces get their final polish with grinding wheels made by DERKOM+KLEIN.
Since its founding in 1912 there has been a tradition at DERKOM+KLEIN which always has the highest priority: Our know-how puts you at the cutting edge - and behind this motto our mission: To be not just a manufacturer of grinding wheels, but rather a service provider to our customers.
